The Hunan Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Expo opened in the Jianxiang Industrial and Cultural Block of Hengyang City on September 21.
At its opening ceremony, the representative inheritor of Xiangxi Miao folk songs and students of the ICH research and training class at the Jishou University sang “Magpies Forecast Good News”.
The expo consisted of an opening ceremony, a live streaming session, six exhibition areas, and two major shows. 198 ICH projects from six provinces of Central China were on exhibit, showcasing the achievements that have been made in the systematic protection of intangible cultural heritage in recent years.
This expo lasted for 3 days and is one of the supporting activities of the 3rd Hunan Tourism Development Conference.
In the performance of ICH projects, Xiangxi Miao drum dance and folk songs were staged, showcasing new achievements in the protection and development of ICH in Xiangxi Prefecture.
11 ICH projects of Xiangxi were displayed in this expo. In the exhibition area of home furnishings, ICH projects such as Xiangxi Miao embroidery, Tujia brocade weaving skills, Fenghuang tie dyeing skills, and bamboo weaving skills were integrated into the furnishings to showcase the charm of Xiangxi’s ICH in a practical way and the beautiful life of the new era.
Jiugui Liquor, golden tea, and Xiangxi Vinegar were highly favored by tourists in the ICH workshop experience area.
Besides, an entrepreneurship and innovation space for ICH was specially set up in the expo. Several research and training bases of colleges like Jishou University and Xiangxi Vocational and Technical College for Nationalities and cultural as well as creative enterprises showcased their cultural and creative ICH products.
According to an organizer of this expo, a new stage for inheriting ICH will be created by integrating ICH and technology, new life concepts of ICH will be conveyed through ICH plus life, a new window will be opened for displaying ICH through ICH plus live streaming, and new ICH experience ways will be explored through ICH plus interaction, in a bid to promote the integrated development of ICH and new formats.
